Prayer Shawl Group
Over the recent winter months, have been busy with their needles as they talked.
The members of the Shawl Group have knitted comfort shawls (or Hugs from God) blankets, chemo hats and bed socks. Hazel Munro and Marion Anderson have created wonderful small Teddies, which seem to have individual personalities that the children can talk to (and often share their worries with).
On Sunday 6th April 2014, the craftwork was on display at the front of the church ready to be packed and shipped to the Emanuel Hospice in Romania
Here is some information about “our gifts of comfort” for Emanuel Hospice Romania.
Oradea is a small city in Romania close to the Hungarian border. They have a very small hospice run by Romanian Christians. They are raising money, by various means, in order to build a new, bigger hospice. This area has the highest registered incidence of cancer in the whole of Romania.
At present, most of the treatment and care for adults and children takes place within their own homes. Recently the head of the Emanuel Hospice visited our own Ardgowan Hospice and she explained how little in the way of comforts her people had, and how cold it could be in winter. This gave us a chance to help . We were also asked for sweets, as these really are a treat which they can also share. Our congregation has produced quite a few sweetie bags and a goodly number of bed socks.
All of the above were requested and will be “shipped” to Romania at the end of April together with our love and good wishes.
